What is a Fire Sprinkler?
Fire Sprinkler is a device that is used for automatic fire detection and protection which senses heat from fire and discharges water directly on the area on fire automatically without the need for manual intervention. They are connected to a fire suppression (sprinkler) system attached to a pressurized water supply network and react automatically when the temperature of the ambient area surrounding the sprinkler head exceeds the rated temperature of the sprinkler head. The sprinklers are employed extensively for life and property safety in various buildings, industries and commercial places by controlling the growth of the fire at its initial stages.

Construction & Design
Sprinkler consists of a body or frame (MS, brass, chrome plated finish) which is thread connected using NPT ½” or R ½” connections in the piping system. It has a heat sensitive glass bulb which contains a liquid inside it which expands due to heating and color coded depending upon the temperature of activation. The glass bulb keeps the deflector and valve cap assembly in the closed position due to water-line pressure. Once the ambient temperature surrounding the sprinkler exceeds the rated temperature of the glass bulb, it gets shattered and releases the valve cap and thus pressurized water passes through the orifice (size depends upon the K-Factor 5.6) and flows on the deflector plate which then sprays water in a pre-defined pattern on the fire area. The sprinklers are designed to work in the operating pressure range of 7 psi (min) to 175/200 psi (max). Sprinklers are designed in various orientations.
